Thunderstorms And Heat

Day one of the heat wave is in the books, with a high temperature of 93º recorded at LAF yesterday. Heat waves are loosely defined as consecutive days of 90º or higher (minimum of 3 consecutive days)...I say loosely because there really isn't "official" criteria for the term.

Continued hot and humid today, but there also looks to be a decent chance of thunderstorms today/tonight/overnight. If a line of storms does develop, there will be a threat of damaging winds and even a low tornado risk as indicated by the Storm Prediction Center.

Otherwise, the Excessive Heat Watch has been extended to run from Tuesday to Saturday. I wouldn't be surprised if it's extended to Sunday as well...or the eventual Heat Advisories/Excessive Heat Warnings will run through Sunday. As for a break in the heat, a couple of the models finally end it by next Monday. Keep your fingers crossed.
