Indianapolis: Current Sub 80º Max Temperature Streak


IND has had 5 days in a row with a sub 80º maximum temperature. The last time that occurred was on July 4-8, 1979. Since 1943, when the airport became the official site for Indianapolis, the longest streak in July is 6 days on July 26-31, 1971. The forecast for the last 3 days of July is for temps to max out in the 70's...so this current one could be the longest streak since 1943.

Indianapolis: July Cool Minimum Temperatures

Indianapolis broke the record for the daily minimum temperature for today with a temperature of 51º. The old record for today was 54º in 1971 and 2004.

Indianapolis: Still Looking For The First 90 Degree Temperature


IND still looking for the first 90º temp of the year. Below are the dates in play, since 1897, of the latest one for Indianapolis.

For comparison...through July 12 of last year, 2012 already had 27 days of 90º+ temps, with 6 of them being 100º+.

The first real intense (and greatest) heat wave for Indianapolis last summer began on June 28. A high temperature comparison between last year and this year in the June 28 - July 7 time period.

The first six days of July 2012 had no measurable rainfall as well. 2013 has turned back to a more normal precipitation pattern, though the airport is drier than most surrounding areas.
