Heat Advisory For Today

The Indianapolis NWS office has issued a Heat Advisory for Lafayette for today. Dangerous heat indices of 105º-110º are probable. Stay safe.


...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM EDT
THIS EVENING...

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN INDIANAPOLIS HAS ISSUED A HEAT
ADVISORY...WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM 1 PM THIS AFTERNOON TO 8 PM
EDT THIS EVENING.

* TEMPERATURE...HEAT INDICES OF 105 TO 110 DEGREES EXPECTED
  MONDAY AFTERNOON.

* IMPACTS...HIGH LEVELS OF HEAT AND HUMIDITY MAY CAUSE HEAT STRESS
  FOR THOSE WORKING OR PLAYING OUTDOORS...AND THOSE INDOORS
  WITHOUT AIR CONDITIONING. HEAT RELATED ILLNESS OFTEN DEVELOPS
  QUICKLY AND CAN BE DEADLY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

TAKE EXTRA PRECAUTIONS IF YOU WORK OR SPEND TIME OUTSIDE. WHEN
POSSIBLE...RESCHEDULE STRENUOUS ACTIVITIES TO EARLY MORNING OR
EVENING. KNOW THE SIGNS OF HEAT EXHAUSTION AND HEAT STROKE.  WEAR
LIGHT WEIGHT AND LOOSE FITTING CLOTHING WHEN POSSIBLE AND DRINK
PLENTY OF WATER.

TO REDUCE RISK DURING OUTDOOR WORK...THE OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY AND
HEALTH ADMINISTRATION RECOMMENDS SCHEDULING FREQUENT REST BREAKS
IN SHADED OR AIR CONDITIONED ENVIRONMENTS. ANYONE OVERCOME BY
HEAT SHOULD BE MOVED TO A COOL AND SHADED LOCATION. HEAT STROKE
