October Snowstorms
In light of the snowstorm that is underway in the Northeast U.S., and no the big cities (DC, PHI, NYC) of the Northeast are not going to see a lot of accumulation...the better chances reside west of the I-95 corridor, we'll harken back to the October 19-20, 1989 snowstorm that hit Indiana.
Locally, there is no other event in October that compares. Matter of fact, looking back through the COOP records that exist back to 1901, it is pretty rare to see 0.1" or greater snowfall in October in Lafayette (5 times in 110 years or once every 22 years). Texas Drought And Some Relief
Nothing exciting happening in Indiana, so I thought I'd mention the rainfall that parts of Texas has and is receiving. Of course it's known that pretty much the entire state of Texas is suffering through one of their worst droughts in years. The recent rainfall is certainly no drought breaker, but it is of some relief. Here are links to the NWS offices in Texas and their reports of the rainfall so far:

Warmth Continues Through Mid-Month
The current warm spell looks to last through at least mid-month. After that, there are signals that a cooler or more normal temperature regime (low to mid 60's for highs) could be setting up. In the world of weather computer models, it seems that they are sometimes too quick to make that change. So while the signal may be there for a different pattern by the middle of this month, it may be closer to the last 10 days of October. Wait and see.
Normal high and low temperatures for Lafayette drop as we go through October. After starting off with low 70's/upper 40's, the month ends with average highs in the low 60's to upper 50's and average lows in the low 40's. The transition in November is more "extreme", but we'll get to that later.
